map made in CC3/Cosmographer overland hexagon style.

I used symbols from the Cosmographer overland style and the buildings from CC3 overland.

overland map legend:

So the player characters don’t get losted too much, maybe an old torn map scroll in one of the ruins out on the plains on the third map. If I do that, I can shorten the road.

The yellow hex on map 3 is for high mountain plains wasteland with undead in the ruins. Nothing major. Cleric at 6th level should be able to handle it. Probably 1-2 wights, the rest skeletons, zombies, and a few ghouls. This area will be the locaiton for Xastle Zhestal and Castle Chestella.

Castle Zhestal

One of the ruins up in the Mountains of Death.

map of castle and nearby area

zoomed in map of castle to show details.

walls 12 feet thick, 2 pourtcullis block entrance at the orange area. They look newly installed. This is the entrance to this old castle. Looking through the pourtculls, visitors might notice one of the metal ladders going up to the top of the wall. There are between the debris pile and the wall to the left of the debris.

Note that wood/metal gates for castle wall entrances came later on in my campaign. They cost more than a portcullis to make.

two dungeon maps.

the one for first dungeon level is very tentative:
the cobblestone corridors are 5 feet wide.

The thin black line is to mark the middle of the ground level castle walls.

this one is not so tentative, second level.
the beds should be pallets/blankets.
The down stairs symbol is 10 feet wide, so this area is very small.

The barrels are setup to give a defensive area if the castle is invaded.

The white area is on the ground level and the stairs, 5’ wide, leading down to first dungeon level.

The small room upper left has a skeleton in it. The secret room nearby has the owner’s main treasure in it.

I was thinking it would be a human magic-user and a group of kobolds living here.
second dungeon level

I’ve been thinking about them working on a larger wall around this small castle.

Castle Zhestal is 6,300 feet above sea level.

Castle Chastella, will be inhabited by undead and be at 12,700 feet above sea level.

direct link to the surface map that shows this area:
each color on this map spans 2,500 feet of altitude change.

Castle Zhestal is on the 5,000 – 7,500 feet contour.
Castle Chestalla is on the 12,500 – 15,000 feet contour.
